Films competing for THE TWNY AWARDS

The Golden Envelopes already hold the winners. Saturday March 2nd will unveil all 12 earners of the TWNYS.

The wait is over. This Saturday 2, at 7:30 is the night of the TWNYS in Miami, and 11 short films are up for nominations.

Two lead the pack with 10 nominations each: The Horse and the Stag a dark drama about the consequences of bullying in the minds of the survivors, by director Jonathan Cuartas, and Side Effects, a comedy that turns into a zombie apocalypse sub-genre, by director Jonathan Vargas.

Close by, is Claudio Marcotulli's ZENú, with 9 nominations (Including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress). The film is a journey through the land of creators' block, while the unstoppable imagination and the absurd reality push its lead character to the brink of madness.

Then, the horror film FEVER from director Brian Rosenthal, with 8 nominations, including a Double nomination for Amy Hoerler (who is also nominated for The Horse and the Stag), and a supporting actress nod for newcomer Lani Lum.

Three films share 7 nominations:

Una Mujer Decidida, from the pen and direction of Lester Llanes, which turns the tables on the genre roles when it comes to online dating, with a strong performance by Madelin Marchant, Clovis, a drama about sexual violence within the prison of a dysfunctional family, which has nominations for most of its cast in leading and supporting roles, and AUREA a steampunk fantasy that recreates the ordeal of immigrants escaping to a new world. These two films have been written, produced and directed by Agatino Zurría and produced by Aurelina Romero.

Gisela Savdie's Mani Cura is a lesson in minimalism to hide home violence. Actress Ika Santamaría is nominated for Best Actress, among the 6 nominations of this film.

In The Arms of Madness is competing in 5 categories, including Best Actor for Eli Jeffree Zen and Best Actress for Gabrielle Paris, who also co-produces the film with the director Talina Adamo, telling a cautionary tale inspired in a true story about life after a breakup gone wrong.

Rarely do documentaries earn Best Picture Awards, but we wanted to be fair and opened our Top Category to all kinds of films of quality, hence Alex Alvarez's Boots, Fists and Politics has gotten three nominations (Best Short Film, Best Director and Best Sound Editing), telling the story of the Punk movement and its involvement in anti-nazism.

The short experimental film New Man closes the nominations with a nod for its Cinematography, by the experienced Joseph Hammond.

The 10 members of Jury selected by THE TWNYS 2018, who are located in diverse cities of the USA, have already chosen their favorites and casted their votes. We asked them to give us their reason for the selection, so when you hear your name, you will also know why you were chosen THE BEST.

WE have been counted all the votes, and secured the winners in their envelopes, only to be opened during the Award Ceremony, and don't worry, we won't be calling LA LA LAND or GREEN BOOK when the time comes.
